Pottery artist Shin Egami

Greetings

Works that add color and richness to our lives.

I wanted to make things, so I jumped into the world of ceramics.

While there are many different ways of expressing ceramics, I first encountered traditional crafts when I was a student.

The work of sublimating the characteristics of the region into something completely new through the creator's originality and ingenuity.

It was shocking and most appealing to me at the time.

We also believe that traditional craftsmanship is to cut out the present moment and express the times, contrary to the old-fashioned nature of the word.

I would be happy if my creations could be integrated into someone's daily life and add color and richness to it.

Commitment

Potter's clay

It begins with the creation of the clay that makes delicate inlaying possible.

In order to create the fine inlaid patterns and to adjust the color of the finished ware, we dig raw clay from the mountains and make our own clay suitable for the expression by water-sieving.

Technique

Inheriting traditional techniques and creating a new history of inlaying Zogan.

Zogan is a technique of inlaying in which a pattern is dug in after molding while the base material is still dry and filled with different shades of clay, such as white or black, to bring the pattern to the surface.

It is a fascinating place where expression is different from that of painting.

Tinge

We repeat the process of mixing and blending every day, pursuing colors that have yet to be seen.

The glaze determines the final color, texture, and elegance of the piece, and we pursue our own unique tints through daily repetition of various raw materials and formulations.
